Pain Management

Have you ever had a pain and become more and more tense, not knowing really what might have caused the it? This happened to someone I know, who went to the doctor, was told the pain was probably sciatica, but until she went to a physiotherapist who explained exactly what was causing the pain, she didn’t understand enough of the detail to stop being scared to move too much or not enough!

Apparently the pain was caused by a nerve being inflamed around a very small joint at the bottom of the back which had a bit of wear and tear. The inflammation had been triggered by the carrying of heavy bags which had caused the joint to become squashed and the nerve to be pinched, sending pain from the back all the way down one leg. Once my friend had had that explained and been given exercises to alleviate the pinching, the pain became much less – even before doing the exercises! This was because a large amount of the pain was caused by tension in the body and fear in the mind.

So often when we have pain we do not realise that by being able to relax the MIND, because we now know what causes the pain, we can then send message to the BODY to relax too. Some of you may have experienced the situation where you start with a pain in one part of the body and, as you become more and more tense, this starts to send messages to other parts of the body to tense up too, which causes yet more pain!

The answer to pain management, after checking it out with your doctor first, is to rid yourself of UNNECESSARY fear, so that you can rid your body of unnecessary TENSION, which only causes more pain.

This is where hypnotherapy helps. A friend of mine had some post operative pain. Everything was checked carefully by doctor and hospital which showed there was nothing wrong and that she was healng nicely – but the pain continued unabated. Finding that medication was no longer working to relieve her pain, she saw a hypnotherapist. Through hypnotherapy she was able to let go of unncecssary fear, whereupon her whole body relaxed and the pain stopped completely! She never looked back and is still healthy and happy 10 years later.
